Nesting: interlocking parts to buy one sheet less
On a run, the difference between three sheets and four is not decided at the cutting head. It is decided by how the parts are laid on the sheet.
No screenshot for this one. Nesting runs at pricing time; it has no screen of its own in the public demo, because the customer sees the result in the price, not the cutting layout. We would rather not mock up a screen that does not exist.
Parts from the same order are placed on the sheet format and rotated to fill the gaps. An angle and a coping that nest head to tail take less area than the same two laid side by side in reading order.
Material is the first line of a precision sheet metal quote, ahead of machine time on most common parts. Saving fifteen per cent of area on a run of sixty parts shows in the margin, and shows even more clearly on a competitive quote.
The calculation respects the real constraints of the cut: grain direction where the material imposes one, the edge margins the clamping needs, and the spacing between parts, which depends on thickness and process.
The saving carries into the price shown to the customer, without you having to work it out or justify it. You do not invoice offcuts you did not buy.
