Xometry alternative
Koventor is an alternative to Xometry for sheet metal and laser cutting shops that want to give their own customers an instant quote on their own website, and make the parts themselves. If you are buying parts rather than making them, Xometry is the relevant option and Koventor is not.
Koventor is our tool. We build it, so this page is a vendor's point of view: read it as one. Everything said about Xometry comes from its official website, checked on October 12, 2026. No ratings, no ranking. If a line has changed since, their page is the reference.
The table, line by line
| Criterion | Xometry | Koventor (our tool) |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A marketplace: "instant access to the production capacity of 4,500+ manufacturers" | A quoting configurator installed for one shop |
| Who makes the parts | "A highly-vetted supplier within Xometry's manufacturing network" | Your shop |
| Instant online price | Yes, the Instant Quoting Engine | Yes, from your own price grid |
| Files accepted for sheet cutting | "DXF, STEP, STP, SLDPRT, IPT, and SAT" | A photo of a hand sketch, or dimensions typed in |
| Missing information | Not found | Asked for, never filled in by default |
| Your materials and machine limits | Network capabilities | Only what your shop declared |
| On your own website | Not found | Yes, that is the point of the installation |
| Output for production | Handled by the supplier | Cut-ready DXF, bending sheet, order acknowledgment |
| Price | Per part, shown in the quote | Depends on your configuration (materials, constraints, integration); quoted before any commitment |
"Not found" means the information did not appear on the public pages we checked that day. It is not a claim that the feature does not exist: ask them.
What Xometry does better
Capacity and processes
Laser, waterjet and plasma cutting, bending, punching and welding across thousands of manufacturers. A single shop with Koventor offers what its own machines do.
Lead time and no minimums
Xometry states a standard lead time of 3 business days, no minimums and free standard shipping.
Certifications
ISO 9001, AS9100D and IATF 16949 are listed. Koventor certifies nothing: your shop's own certifications apply.
CAD repair
Xometry presents automatic DXF repair on uploaded files. Koventor works from sketches and typed dimensions and produces its own DXF.
Who each one fits
Pick Xometry instead if
- You need parts made and do not own the machines.
- Your files are clean CAD and you want a price in minutes.
- You need certifications or processes a single shop does not have.
Koventor will suit you better if
- You run the shop and want your customers to get a price without calling you.
- Many requests arrive as a sketch on paper, not as a DXF.
- You want your materials, your limits and your prices applied, even at night.
Frequently asked questions
Can I order parts from Koventor?
No. Koventor is software for a shop. The parts are made by the shop that installed it.
Does Xometry accept a hand sketch?
Its sheet cutting page lists DXF, STEP, STP, SLDPRT, IPT and SAT files, checked October 12, 2026. We did not find sketches or photos accepted for an instant quote.
What does Koventor do with a sketch?
It reads the photo, rebuilds the part with segments, dimensions and angles, and asks the customer for what is missing instead of guessing.
Does Xometry offer software for shops?
It offers Workcenter, a free platform for its suppliers to manage Xometry jobs. We did not find a tool to put on your own website.
How much does Koventor cost?
It depends on your configuration: materials, constraints, integration. You get a clear quote before any commitment.
