Voice input: describing a part without typing anything
On a roof, wearing gloves, a fifteen-field form is not fillable. A voice is.
The customer describes the part the way they would describe it on the phone: “a 2 mm aluminium coping, two metres long, forty of return each side, RAL 7016”. The configurator pulls the same fields as a keyboard entry, and asks a question if something is missing.
Voice is also used to answer, which is the more frequent case by far. When a sketch reading hits a missing piece of information, an “answer by voice” button appears next to the question. The customer says the answer; they do not hunt for a dropdown on a phone screen in direct sunlight.
Let us be straight about it: on the public demo, dictation is deliberately off. It needs a transcription service wired up workshop by workshop, with your credentials. The button is visible, the message tells you so, and we prefer that to a feature that looks like it works without working.
At an equipped workshop it runs on the customer's phone with no app to install: it is a web page, not software you make someone install when all they want is a price.
